Don't doubt the Lemon Brussel Sprout

so misunderstood, I love you brussel sprouts.

My mamma, or as we call her, Weezie, is not known far and wide for her cooking. And that is ok, my dad is a wonderful kitchen hog and my grandma Jo did most of the cooking when we were kids. So she hasn't really had to flex those culinary chops. But, the few dishes my mom makes, she crushes. Today I want to share with you her brussell sprout recipe. Now listen, I can hear you sighing, "ugh, brussel sprouts!" but I really want you to try this, especially if you aren't into brussel sprouts, they are freaking delicious, surprisingly simple and healthy. If you are a sprout hater, this will change your mind.

Many, many years ago I went on a blind-date with an Italian-American guy from Queens. We were eating dinner and I ordered brussel sprouts as a side and he made a yuck face and said, "I hate brussell sprouts", I responded with a giggle and one handed "forget that" wave and said, "you are crazy, they are so good." he came back with a snarled face, , "My mother makes them, they are disgusting." I, enthusiastic about my love of this misunderstood vegetable encouraged him with, "you would like them if you tried my mothers....she......" He pulled his head back and tossed his hands in the air, interrupting me in the most insulted voice saying, "You saying my mother doesnt make the best brussell sprouts?" I told him I was sure his moms brussell sprouts were great, but my mom has a certain way of preparing them. He wasn't having it, he told his moms were the best, that was it. I don't know how he knew that considering he just spent 15 minutes giving me a monologue about how he wouldn't eat them. Needless to say, there was no second date. And also, just incase he is reading this.....

Dear Blind Date I shall not name, yes. I was saying your mom doesn't make the best brussell sprouts. Cuz MINE DOES!

my mamma, Weezie, Queen of Brussel Sprouts

What Do I Need

1 Pound Brussel Sprouts

1 T Olive Oil

1 Lemon

1/4 t Garlic Salt

Pepper

so fresh and so clean.

Now What?

Clean and Trim the end stalks off your brussel sprouts and steam for 5 - 10 minutes, until soft. Take care not to over-steam them or they get mushy and bitter if over-cooked.

Mix the juice of 1/2 lemon and 1 T olive oil, set aside.

After steaming, place brussel sprouts in serving bowl, toss with olive oil and lemon juice mixture, add garlic salt and pepper to taste, squeeze remaining lemon half over them and ENJOY!

Hello easiest side recipe EVER!!!!! I love these with a steak or pork tenderloin!

lemon + brussel sprouts = good.

Take Note: Need more spice in your life? You can kick this up with some red pepper flakes!
